Welcome to the Safe Hometowns Initiative!

The Safe Hometowns Initiative is a group of organizations and individuals who are concerned about the threat to public safety posed by the presence of extremely hazardous chemicals in thousands of American communities. We are encouraging government and industry to protect American communities by putting prevention first. The organization has encourage residents to take as many precautions as possible including home security systems. A lot of systems have the ability to detect chemicals in the home and prevent health risks to the residents, such as ADT home security.

The Safe Hometowns Initiative was launched in response to the continuing threat of a terrorist attack on chemical sites around the country. Our goal is to make our communities safer through public involvement in decisions about chemical site security.

Please take the opportunity to review our newly published Safe Hometowns Guide.

The Guide was developed by public health and safety experts to provide you with tools you need to reduce the vulnerability of your hometown. The guide has a step-by-step checklist, that will help communities identify vulnerable facilities, organize assessments of hazardous materials used at facilities and make recommendations on safer material and process alternatives.

We also hope you’ll take some time to learn about the Chemical Security Act Currently pending in the Senate. The act would strengthen the Federal government’s role in preventing a catastrophic release of toxic chemicals in the event of a terrorist attack.
